The engraving shows the second stage of the bullfight, the so-called tercio de banderillas (or second tercio). This
step is for Banderilleros provoke the bull charges through the movements of your body and
attacking him from afar. On the backs of bulls must be stuck three pairs of banderillas: these rods
of wood (70 cm long) adorned with multicolored paper strips and terminating in a hook in the shape of a
harpoon (steel). Picasso has been able to make the suspense of the episode describing the moment when the
Banderilleros expects to face the bull. The shadow on the right heightens the tension of the scene.
