Mirror equipped with an elegant oval-shaped frame in carved, gilded and lacquered wood. The mirror is enlivened by an exuberant ornamental motif aimed at giving prestige and royalty to the whole. The mirror marks its contact with the beautiful wooden frame through a refined and painstaking beading that surrounds the entire oval shape. n. 2 numbered and hand colored watercolor reproduction prints on medium thickness paper protected by glass and equipped with golden passe-partout and wooden frame. Both taken from one of the editions of "Dei Discorsi" by the Sienese doctor Pietro Andrea Mattioli (1501-1578), an ancient botanical Renaissance work of great importance given its over sixty editions in different languages. The volume, published for the first time in the Italian vernacular in 1544 and in Latin in 1554, remained a fundamental point of reference for botany scholars at least throughout the seventeenth century. The text, universally known by the Latin title "Commentarii in sex libros Pedacii Dioscoridis Anazarbei de materia medica", is enriched by a thousand woodcut images, numbered plates of large dimensions and high accuracy and precision, deriving from the observation of plants from life, designed by Giorgio Liberale da Udine and engraved on wood by Wolfgang Meyerpeck, German engraver.
