of gentle serpentine form, the moulded top above three conforming crossbanded drawers with original bronze knobs, flanked by canted angles, with flat sides carved with burr-walnut recessed panels, on antique bun front feet and bracket rear feet

A Venetian gilt-wood carved mirror, mid-18th century

the antique mercury rectangular plate within a moulded frame carved with repeated reserves of stylized flowers, leaves, and clasps en bas relief on a ground offset by embossed reserves, the inner border carved with a ribbon pattern and the edge with a denticulated one; the plate replaced

comprising two commodes with matching bedside tables, the tops above a short drawer above two long recessed drawers, flanked on projecting corners by ebonized scrolled angles with carved gilt-wood palmettes applied to the volutes and terminating at the front in a further gilt-wood palmettes, the ebonized top banding matching the bottom lining, on plinth legs, later gilt-bronze handles and escutcheons designed to suit style and period

decorated overall with engraved ivory inlays, the inverted breakfront superstructure with six small drawers, two in the centre and two on either side en pendant, inlaid with foliage, flowers, and mythical beasts, the moulded top centered by a rhomboid-shaped engraving flanked on either side by similarly inlaid roundels, above a frieze drawer and a recessed, convex-shaped door, the central knee-hole flanked by a further three bow-fronted drawers on each side, on eight baluster tapering legs joined by X-shaped stretchers topped by a small urn-like finial, on bun feet; finials and buns replaced

the armchairs mimicking the shape of choir stalls with jutting large, pierced rosette elements on either side of the rectangular back-rest centred by similarly-carved and pierced rosettes, the flat arm rests partially supported by carved grotesque beast-like heads, the sides decorated with plectrum-shaped carvings with further inset rosettes, the flat hinged seat on shaped trestle supports ending in paw feet

The armchairs are held together entirely by wooden key joints rather than by nails; as such, they can be easily disassembled             High 42in.

Bust of a Male notable posing as a condottiero, as evinced by the draping of the mantle, which is reminiscent of the paludamentum, the cloak of Roman military commanders including the Emperors, as well as by the pteryx (fringed leather) at the uncovered right-hand armhole; the paludamentum and pteryges were adopted and widely used as symbols of military might from Roman antiquity onwards.
